Membership Responsibilities

One aspect of any CSA is that members support their farmer by sharing in the inherent risks of agriculture (poor weather, drought, disease, early frost, crop failure and so on) and rewards (the bounty from a good season). CSA farmers plan for such contingencies and use growing techniques that protect the harvest, minimize risk to members, and optimize the rewards.

As a member, you agree that there is no guarantee on the exact amount or type of produce you will receive in your share. But by participating in the SICSA, you are supporting the farmer as well as a more equitable food distribution system, and you are helping to create a more environmentally just, economically fair, and healthy society.

Work requirement

Membership requires that you work 5.5 hours per share during the season. Site work hours are from 4:45 pm to 7 pm on Thursdays at the distribution center, in the Christ Church parking lot on Fillmore St.

Before the pickup

Each week you will receive an e-mail with an update from Farmer John letting you know what to expect in the share and the site coordinator's phone number. Please check if you're on the schedule to help that day.

Pickup information

Pickups are Thursdays from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

The pickup point is in the parking lot at the rear of the Christ Church Parish Hall on Fillmore Street.

Christ Church New Brighton is located at 76 Franklin Avenue, on the corner of Franklin Ave. and Fillmore St., one block south of Richmond Terrace. Unless you are working, please do not come early--the site coordinator and volunteers are getting set up from 4:45 to 5:30.

  • If you are going to be late (after 6:45), please call the site coordinator and make arrangements for your share. Site coordinators have a list of everyone's phone numbers, so they may call you if they don't hear from you.
  • The site closes promptly at 7 p.m. If you miss the pickup and you have not contacted the site coordinator, your food will be donated to Christ Church and/or to a soup kitchen.

Note: You can have someone else pick up for you. Please let them know the procedures.
